Plant Machinery Parts
Spare parts are the life-blood of the
plant hire industry, without parts things would fail and it would be a
lengthy and costly trial to have them replaced. Whilst it is easy to
consider simply allowing the manufacturer to sort out any problems that
would occur they will usually send out an engineer to assess the
situation but rather than repairing the equipment using parts they will
simply send out a replacement unit to be fitted, or even an entirely
new piece of replacement machinery. Manufacturers premiums are also
very high for this kind of service and many smaller plant hire companies
often cannot afford insurance policies with their original equipment
suppliers that allow for this kind of “old for new” swap when something
breaks down. Henceforth it is vitally important to maintain a wide
range of spare parts for engineers to use to fix broken down equipment.
Without
spares an engineer or mechanic will be unable to take any action to
repair something that is broken and may have to send out for spare
parts themselves. Often they will charge a higher price than the parts
are worth for this service and again you will have to wait for days,
weeks, or even months while the parts are delivered. And even then
there is no guarantee that the correct parts for the broken equipment
have been ordered! There is such a wide range of plant hire equipment
utilised in the industry that it is very easy to make a mistake when
ordering parts, which is why it is vitally important that you keep your
own stock of parts (or know where to source them when needed) should
the unthinkable happen and your equipment break down.
Even
if you do not have your own engineer or mechanic who specialises in
repairing just your equipment if you have the spares on hand any
outsourced or contracted fixer will be able to use your own parts to
repair the fault at no extra cost to you, and because you know where to
purchase these spare parts then you can order a replacement straight
away to replace the part that was used in the repair operation. If you
do not have the space or the finances to keep a stock of spare parts
for your equipment then you should be sure that you know of a number of
companies you can purchase them from immediately if required. These
companies should always carry stock; if they have to import it to you
from the manufacturer then you will be left with unserviceable
equipment for a long time, all of which will be costing you money. If
your equipment is old or is no longer produced then you should
investigate stockpiling spares, as when it does break down you may
discover that you are unable to purchase replacement parts and will
have to scrap the troublesome piece of plant hire equipment.
