Man falls to death from digger

Posted on Thursday, 09 October 2008 12:39PM by
A market gardener was balancing in the bucket of a digger while the machine was operated by an unqualified worker. Sadly the gardener, Mr Anthony Cripps, fell to his death from the digger. Mr Cripps was attempting to clear elderflower at Lady Carole Bamford's Gloucestershire shop.

The jury convened at Gloucestershire Hall and were informed that the digger was driven by 22 year old Gareth Trueman who had no formal training operating diggers. Detective Inspector Blomfield told the jury how he had arrived at the Daylesfored Estate after the accident to discover the JCB lying near to a chicken house with Mr Cripps sprawled in front of it.

He stated "the JCB was at rest with the front right-hand wheel in a depression in a field. The depression was at least ankle deep." Mr Trueman was arrested but it was decided that there was insufficient evidence to charge him with negligent manslaughter.

The organic farm is run by JCB chairman Sir Anthony Bamford's wife, Lady Carole Bamford with food from their Staffordshire estate.
